Our small to medium sized dogs

These are our smaller dogs ready for rehoming. All are passported, vaccinated, sterilised and chipped. Please contact us if you would like more information or to meet the dog.

Arwen
female
Arwen is estimated to have been born 11/11/2022, she is a small brown and white podenca and currently weighs 10.6kg (13/06/2024) measuring approx 42cm at the shoulder She has recently been castrated 07/05/2024 She arrived at the refuge 19/03/2024,in very poor condition and was treated for manage and giardia. She also tested positive for leishmania, this is being treated with allopurinol as a precaution, although it was not active. She will be retested June 2024 to see if a more robust treatment is needed. All other mediterranean diseases tested negative Arwen is very friendly (after a few minutes warm up) She is playful and loves toys. she is fine with all other dogs, she currently lives with the 3 Don Animal boys and is quite obsessed with Luciano. Arwen walks on a lead. She hasn’t seen much and is a little worried about the traffic but just needs more practice.

Browny
female
Browny, is was born approximately 30/04/2014 She has been spayed and also tested Leish positive Browny has lost about 3kg since arrival, currently weighing 13.5kg, but still needs to lose more weight. She is 44cm at the shoulder She came from a goat farm, so had never been lead walked. Currently undergoing training and still not keen on traffic, but now not freaking out. She gets on well with other dogs

Deli
female
Deli was born approx 08/03/2021, she currently weighs 11.3kg (10/06/2024). she arrived at Tail 27/02/2024. Having been trapped in the campo in a different area by Marta, previously SOS Rescue, part of our ongoing collaboration with other rescues. Deli is a small brown Podenca, and has been castrated. She has a few small scars on her face, the very end of her tail is a little bald (doesn’t really show) Deli is sweet and easy, friendly with people and other dogs. Deli walks on a lead but hasn’t seen much. She is a little worried by traffic but continues walking with encouragement. She is more confident when walked with other dogs rather than alone. Deli has tested positive for leishmania, but it is inactive. Negative for all other Mediterranean diseases.

Flora (local adoption only)
female
Flora is estimated to be born 20.8.2011 and arrived in poor condition with Perla. She is a medium cross breed weighing 18.5kg. She is very friendly and also obsessed with food. She is energetic for her age and walks ok but would benefit from more training. She has tested positive for leishmaniosis and has also has seizures in the past. She is currently on medication for this. She has a strong hunting instinct but gets on well with other dogs

Isidora
female
Isidora was trapped as a part of a group. She is estimated to be born 6.2.20, weighs 8.1kg and is 39cm in height. She is a small podenca timid but sweet. She gets on fine with other dogs but is currently not lead trained. She has tested positive for leishmaniosis. A friendly little girl who will get more confident with training

Kalesi
female
Kalesi, weighs 6.4kg, and measures approx 38cm at the shoulder. Her date of birth is given as 01/12/2023 Kalesi has been spayed and tested negative for leish on a snap test, prior to coming to Tail. Kalesi is fine with other dogs. She's an active mini pod, who is very very friendly and little submissive. One toe sticks up a bit and was probably broken at one point, this does not bother her at all. She had a bump on the same leg on arrival but it went away completely. Kalesi can be very vocal when left.

Kimu
female
Kimu's date of birth is given as 28/09/23. She weighs 15.2kg, and measures 53cm at the shoulder. She is very playful and friendly (after a few minutes) No lead walking experience but willing and this is being worked on. Not freaking out, also not too bothered by traffic, a little wary of people in the street (she was chased a lot before being caught). Kimu is Leish positive, but it's not active and there are no symptoms, so she is taking Allopurinol as a precaution.

Lily
female
Lily was born 20.5.2014 and is a small podenca. She was handed in by a German lady who was returning to Germany. She is super sweet with people and tends to prefer women but with other dogs she can be aggressive. For this reason she is best suited to a single dog home. She has had an operation on her right hind leg and has spent much time in a cage since. She walks very nicely on the lead and is not scared of traffic. She can be a bit timid to start with and we suspect she may have been hit in the past

Malcolm

Estimated D.O.B 06/02/21. Malcolm mixes well with female dogs, but does not get on with other males. He is friendly with people, but wary of sudden movements. Will walk on a slip lead but currently does not like the harness. He is a typical, passionate hunting dog. He tested leish positive on arrival, and has been treated with allopurinol, his results have now improved, he has no symptoms and has not needed any additional treatment

Nala

Nala is estimated to be born 20.6.20 and was trapped along with 3 pups. She weighs 15.8kg and is 48cm in height. She is a medium cross breed with a rough coat. She is doing well living with a mixed group but would be best suited to living with a dog of similar size as she can bully. She has started lead training but does not like putting harness on. She is suited to an experienced home

Wolfie
male
Wolfie is estimated to be born August 2016. He was found in a very bad state and completely wild. He is getting tamer and lives happily with a females. He weighs 12.8kg and is 42cm in height. He is a small white podenco with a docked tail. He has demonstrated fear related aggression in the past and still needs time spent with him but is friendly once he knows people. He is affectionate and easy to handle. He has demonstrated food related aggression and needs to be fed separately. He would also need a secure garden and would be best suited to a calm experienced home or foster with no children. He does still have problems walking and can just stop but with work he will get back to walking normally. He seems to get on well with other dogs and has turned into a sweet boy
